The Paparazzi
You want to stop the paparazzi? It's very simple to do: stop buying any news source that publishes paparazzi-style news or pictures.
There's the obvious supermarket tabloid crap like
Sun and
National Enquirer, but also include any "celebrity gossip"-based publication, like
People and
Variety.
Don't watch
Entertainment Tonight,
Inside Edition,
E!,
Bravo,
Nancy Grace, and most of MSNBC. Skip watching even "legitimate" news sources like CNN when they start talking about celebrities.
Simply don't buy it on paper or watch it on TV. Don't visit "celebrity gossip" websites, skip right over the "entertainment section" of the newspaper, don't pay attention to celebrity trials or scandals, don't watch awards shows, and don't gossip about them with your friends (and most importantly: don't gossip about them near me).
Actors and actresses are people who
act in movies and TV shows; that is their job. Why should I care if a janitor is getting a divorce or beats off to pictures of cats? All I care is if he does his job and empties my damn trash can. There is no reason to pay attention to celebrities outside of their jobs, other than the pathetic nature of the viewers' lives.
If no one pays for paparazzi-style pictures, there won't be any more paparazzi to take them. Is it likely that everyone in the country will stop buying this photographic crack? No, but I bet you can stop anytime you like...
anytime.
